DOHA: Condolences poured in on social media and from several quarters on the death of prominent Indian community leader K Muhammad Easa, who was known as a philanthropist, music lover and businessman.

Easa, aged 69, fondly called Easakka by those who know him, was admitted to Hamad General Hospital three days ago after suffering from pneumonia, and passed away on Wednesday morning of cardiac arrest.

Easa hails from Valancheri in Malappuram district of Kerala and was the General Manger of Ali International Trading, and was Vice-President of Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), a prominent expat organization in Qatar.

In hundreds of tributes on social media, his friends and acquaintances remembered him as a magnanimous, humble and loving personality who was always accessible and ready to help people in need, with some remembering that, when two employees of his company died in an accident a few years ago, he announced he would send the salaries of the deceased employees to their families in India as long as the company existed.

Easa also loved and promoted music, especially Mappilappattu, and was a regular presence at musical shows, and was a singer, too.

He is survived by wife Naseema and four children – Najla, Noufal, Nadir and Nameer.

He will be buried at Abu Hamour Cemetery this evening.
