Shops prepare for back-to-school season with fresh supplies

Hypermarkets and school stationery shops are preparing for the back-to-school season by stocking on school supplies, as they compete to display a variety of products at competitive prices to attract students and parents.

However, a number of parents have called on the authorities, represented by Consumer Protection, to impose a control over the prices of school supplies, which have begun to witness gradual increases as the beginning of the school season approaches, an Arabic newspaper has reported.

Many parents are used to preparing their children with all the school supplies they need, such as pens, books and stationery, well in advance of the opening of schools, to avoid crowding in the markets.

Preparing for school is not limited to school materials only, but also includes school uniforms, shoes, and sportswear. The back-to-school season is one of the most important seasons for the sales at bookstores and stationery stores, after a period of average or dull sales during the year, the report adds.

The owner of one of the libraries said that there are no increases in the prices of school supplies, due to the availability of a large supply, and the existence of great competition between libraries and shops that sell stationery and school supplies to attract customers.

In fact, some libraries offer discounts to attract customers. He added that his library began bringing in its new supplies and displaying them some time ago in preparation for the start of the new school year, most notably regular and university notebooks and all stationery items such as pens, rulers and colors, including those for children and kindergarten students and primary and preparatory stages, and others for adults in secondary and university stages such as files and large notebooks.
