Seat belt violations are enforced for both the driver and the front seat passenger when detected by traffic patrols and surveillance cameras, the Ministry of Interior has said on social media.

The Ministry said this as a clarification regarding the enforcement of seat belt violations.

The law specifies that both the driver of a vehicle and the front seat passenger must use seat belts while the vehicle is in motion. Failure to comply with this regulation will result in penalties.

From September last year, automated monitoring for seat belts and mobile phone use violations while driving was implemented, and this applies to front seat passenger, too.

The unified radar system is connected to all radars and road CCTV cameras across the country to reduce road accidents resulting in death and injuries.

The Ministry’s top priority is to promote the use of seat belts and prevent the use of mobile phones while driving.

In another social media post, the ministry highlighted the severe dangers of running red lights, which often lead to accidents and injuries. For the safety of everyone inside the vehicle, always obey traffic signals and stay attentive while driving, it said.
