Dezeen, the globally acclaimed architecture and design magazine, has unveiled its list of the 25 most significant buildings from the past 25 years, naming Qatar’s Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) as the significant building for 2008.

As part of its “21st-Century Architecture: 25 Years 25 Buildings” campaign, Dezeen has carefully selected one groundbreaking structure from each year since 2000, highlighting projects that have left a lasting impact on contemporary architecture. Now, the publication is inviting readers to vote for the most significant building of the 21st century, with the winner set to be announced later this year.

Designed by the legendary Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei, the Museum of Islamic Art is widely regarded as the first “mega-museum” in the Gulf region. Situated on a man-made island along Doha’s Corniche, the museum is a masterpiece that fuses traditional Islamic architectural elements with modern aesthetics. Visitors approach the iconic structure via a striking promenade that features a stunning fountain, a scenic tree-lined boulevard, and an elegant bridge over the water.

The inclusion of MIA in Dezeen’s prestigious list reaffirms Qatar’s growing influence on the global architectural landscape. The full list of selected buildings features a diverse range of designs from around the world, including the Tate Modern in the UK, Burj Khalifa in the UAE, and Apple Park in the US.

With voting now open, architecture lovers and design enthusiasts can cast their votes to determine which of these iconic structures will be recognized as the most significant building of the 21st century. The results will be announced by Dezeen in the coming months. Readers can participate by submitting their choice for the Most Significant Building of the 21st Century on the Dezeen website.
