The technical team for the Unified GCC Visa Project held its fifth meeting chaired by the State of Qatar at the headquarters of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) General-Secretariat in Riyadh.

Assistant Director of the Border Passports Department Lt. Col. Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Thani represented the State of Qatar at the meeting, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

Chaired by Assistant Director General of Communications and Information Systems at the Ministry of Interior Lt. Col. Jassem Khalid Al Hamr, the meeting discussed a range of agenda items related to the stages of the Unified GCC Visa Project.

Earlier, a report from the UAE said that the system to launch the unified GCC tourist visa will be put in place by the end of the year by the regional countries.

Addressing a panel discussion held as part of Arabian Travel Market (ATM) on Monday, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority (SCTDA), said: “By the end of this year, the whole system will be in place. (We) are working day and night and e-service is a vital part of it.

We don’t want to complicate things for people and also maintain the same security level. It will be a very good initiative and we will see a positive outcome for regional economies.”
