The 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated in Doha with the theme ‘Yoga for Self and Society’ on Friday at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium.

The mega event was organized by the Embassy in partnership with Indian Sports Centre and other community organizations. The Ambassador of Nepal, as well as diplomats from several other countries, were present at the event.

The celebrations began with the playing of a video message from Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to mark the 10th International Day of Yoga. In his message, Modi said, “Yoga is a timeless practice that celebrates oneness and harmony. Yoga has transcended cultural and geographical boundaries, uniting millions across the globe in the pursuit of holistic well-being.”

Indian Ambassador Mr Vipul welcomed the participants and said this year’s theme ‘Yoga for Self and Society’ stresses “the holistic benefits that we all can draw from this ancient Indian tradition.”

“The awareness about yoga has increased multifold and today, across the world, one can find regular followers of yoga, as well as many people who are interested in it and trying to get initiated and that is one of the goals of celebrating the International Day of Yoga every year,” he said.

The highlight of the event was the performance of the Common Yoga Protocol by participants. Over 2,000 yoga practitioners and enthusiasts including children, youth and women from a cross section of the society attended the event.

There was also enthusiastic participation in yoga competitions held for both children and adults. The celebrations concluded with felicitations and distribution of prizes and mementoes to winners of competitions and yoga instructors.
