Oscars for airports’ names Doha’s HIA best airport in the world for 2024

Singapore Changi Airport achieves second place and Seoul Incheon Airport comes third

DOHA: Doha’s Hamad International Airport has been named the World’s Best Airport 2024 in the World Airport Awards by Skytrax, held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Frankfurt on Wednesday. Hamad International Airport also won awards for the World’s Best Airport Shopping and the Best Airport in the Middle East.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards is called ‘the Oscars of the airport industry’ and Doha’s winning of the award is considered a huge achievement for Qatar.

The Doha airport, home to a 6,000-square-metre indoor tropical garden and which offers unlimited free Wi-Fi, takes home the gong for World’s Best Airport Shopping.

Doha airport previously won the top prize in 2021 and 2022.

The 2023 Airport of the Year and 12-times previous winner, Singapore Changi Airport, achieved second place in the global ranking, winning awards for the Best Airport in Asia and the World’s Best Airport Immigration Service.

Seoul Incheon Airport comes third in the global ranking and picks up the award for World’s Most Family Friendly Airport. Rounding off the top five is Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Airports in the UK and the USA are conspicuous by their absence, with both countries failing to make the top 20, though Newark Liberty Airport – Terminal A takes home the prize for World’s Best New Airport Terminal, Houston Airport System snares World’s Best Airport Art and Entertainment, and Heathrow Airport ranks a fairly respectable 21 in the overall global list – out of 597 airports worldwide.
