The Embassy of India will celebrate the 10th UN International Day of Yoga on Friday, June 21, with a yoga event at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, Ambassador H E Vipul has said
The event will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and this year’s theme is “Yoga for Self and Society,” emphasizing the holistic benefits of yoga for individuals and its power to foster harmony between humanity and nature.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the Ambassador said the main element of the event will be the performance of Common Yoga Protocol by all participants for about 40 minutes. The event will also feature yoga competitions for children and adults and a yoga quiz.
“I’m delighted that we are celebrating our 10th International Day of Yoga here in Doha on June 21st. We’re hosting a major event at the Asia Town Cricket Stadium and hope for a large turnout. Yoga benefits us as individuals and helps build a more peaceful and harmonious society. I invite everyone to join us on June 21st to celebrate this significant day,” Mr Vipul later told News Trail.
He also highlighted ongoing activities leading up to the event. “In the past few days, numerous yoga sessions have taken place in schools, and at the Indian Cultural Center, where we conducted a yoga session for all the embassy officials alongside with few community members,” he added.
An ICC official said transportation has been arranged from the Indian Cultural Centre to the venue to address parking issues. Shuttle bus service will be available from 5pm at ICC.
The UN proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by a resolution which was proposed by India and co-sponsored by a record 177 member states in December 2014.
