The hot, intense, and dry wind season, known locally as Simoom, has begun and will continue for two weeks until July 29, the Qatar Calendar House announced on its official social media accounts.
The Simoom season is known for stirring up sand and dust, It significantly reduces visibility in affected areas and causes temperatures to rise dramatically. This weather phenomenon is one of the most famous types of monsoon winds and has a notable impact on the Arabian Peninsula.
Residents and travellers across the region have been advised to take necessary precautions, as the conditions brought on by these winds can be challenging.
Simoom, derived from the Arabic word for ‘poison’, is a term used to describe a hot, dry, and intense wind that blows primarily across desert regions of the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and parts of the Middle East.
This weather phenomenon is dangerous for its extreme conditions, and the ability to stir up vast amounts of sand and dust.
