HH The Amir Sword Festival kicks off today with $10m in prizes

Organized by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC), the competitions of HH the Amir Sword Festival will kick off on Thursday at Al Rayyan Racecourse.
This prestigious three-day sporting event will feature top horses from both Qatar and abroad, showcasing exciting equestrian competition.
This year’s edition celebrates cultural heritage through the festival’s new identity, “Al Bisht,” which reflects Qatari tra-ditions and strengthens the legacy cherished by the community. It also introduces younger generations to the sport of their ancestors, blending traditional customs with modern sporting competitions.
QREC revealed that the total financial prizes for this year’s festival amount to $10m. The statement also highlighted a notable increase in international participation, with 28 foreign entries, underscoring the event’s growing reputation and appeal to owners, trainers, and jockeys worldwide.
The Amir Sword Festival is a key annual event in Qatar’s sports calendar, aimed at promoting equestrian sports in the country.
The festival features several main rounds, most notably HH the Amir Sword Round for Purebred Arabian Horses (Grade 1 – Class 1) over a distance of 2400 meters and its prize money is $2.5m, and HH the Amir Trophy Round for Thoroughbred Arabian Horses (Grade 1 – Class 1) over a distance of 2400 meters and its prize money is $2.5m.
