The Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality is making great efforts to complete preparations at all public parks in the country to receive visitors during the days of Eid Al-Adha, a senior official has said.

Speaking to Al Raya daily, Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Sada, Director of the Public Parks Department, said that the preparations at public parks are done in two phases – first was maintaining plants and green spaces and providing the gardens with appropriate seasonal flowers, while the second focused on maintaining garden facilities such as restrooms, children’s play areas, and other facilities and services that the public park provides to its visitors.

He also said there has been a significant growth in the size of green spaces in the country and green spaces have increased from 4.4 square kilometers in 2019 to 43 square kilometers in 2024.

“The country has 113 parks, and there are three parks under maintenance, which are Al-Shamal Park, Al-Wakrah Park, and Dahl Al-Hamam Park, in addition to four Corniches, namely, Doha Corniche, Al-Khor, Al-Shamal, and Al-Ruwais,” he said.

When asked why a number of parks that were completed a long time ago are not opened for public, he said: “Implementing garden projects requires many necessary steps, which in turn require a period of time. These are procedures to ensure safety standards, whether for approval certificates from the Civil Defense or surveillance cameras and their rooms, which are approved by the Security Systems Department of the Ministry of Interior.

Then a construction completion certificate is issued by the municipality, and once these matters are completed, coordination is made with the Public Works Authority to begin the handover operations.”
