As the summer travel season heats up, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued a timely reminder for travelers to stay vigilant against fraud.

In a post on the social media platform X, the MoI emphasized that “fraud never takes a vacation” and shared essential tips to protect oneself from travel-related scams.

The Ministry has given the following key tips to avoid travel fraud:

Choose Secure ATMs: The MoI advises avoiding ATMs in open, high-traffic areas and instead recommends using ATMs located inside bank branches, which are less susceptible to tampering.

Secure Your Documents and Devices: Travelers should store their personal documents and devices in secure locations, such as hotel safes or lockable luggage, to prevent theft.

Book Through Reputable Sources: To avoid scams, it’s crucial to book accommodation, tours, and transportation through well-known, reputable websites or agencies.

Be Cautious with QR Codes: Scanning unknown QR codes can lead to phishing attacks or malware downloads. Always verify the source before scanning.

Use Secure Wi-Fi: Public Wi-Fi networks are often insecure. Travelers should use secure, private Wi-Fi networks whenever possible to protect their personal information.

The MoI also provided contact information for the Cybercrimes Combating Department for those who encounter cybercrime while traveling. Reports can be made via their hotline at 6681 5757, the Metrash2 app, or by emailing cccc@moi.gov.qa
