Eid Al Fitr: Doha Municipality to intensify inspections at food outlets

10 work teams to be formed from the Health Control Section

DOHA: The Doha Municipality has announced an intensive campaign at food manufacturing and supply companies before and during Eid Al Fitr holidays.

The Municipality also announced the formation of 10 work teams from the Health Control Section of the Municipal Control Department to carry out inspections and awareness campaigns at food outlets simultaneously.

The Municipality said as part of awareness campaigns, brochures and booklets will be distributed in Arabic, English and Urdu to workers in food establishments to introduce sound health practices.

The brochures and booklets will also talk about the requirements that must be met, and how to handle food items in healthy and safe ways to ensure cleanliness and safety and thus protect the health of the consumers.

As for inspections, the inspections will cover food manufacturing and supply companies, consumer associations, and stores selling vegetables, fruits, sweets, and nuts.

The inspections will be carried out at several places, especially commercial places where large numbers of people gather. These include beverage kiosks, public parks, festivals, as well as tourist and entertainment places like Souq Waqif, Doha Port, the Corniche, Msheireb Downtown, the Katara Cultural Village’, The Pearl, and the commercial complexes where thousands of people visit during the holidays.

Samples of food items will also be taken and analyzed routinely in the central laboratory to ensure their suitability for human consumption.

Fish sold on the Corniche will also be examined.
