DOHA: The Iftar project, which is organized by the “Dhu Al-Minaretain” Center, at the Education City Mosque, provides more than 2,500 iftar meals daily, throughout the holy month of Ramadan, Hamad Al-Naimi, Event Planning Coordinator at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, has said.

Speaking to Al Sharq, he pointed out that the tent witnesses a large crowd of people from different nationalities residing in the State of Qatar, who flock to the Ramadan tent from 4 pm every day to enjoy the healthy Iftar meals provided by the mosque, followed by Maghrib prayer in the mosque courtyard.

Al-Naimi stated in exclusive statements to Al Sharq that the initiative provides additional meals ranging between 150 and 200 meals in the event of an increase in the numbers coming to the center daily, noting that the total number of meals exceeds 75,000 meals throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

The events coordinator at Hamad Bin Khalifa University explained that the mosque provides a special section for families so that they can enjoy Iftar in complete privacy.

The center also witnesses a series of diverse and interactive community events that aim to enhance spiritual communication, strengthen unity and belonging, and increase awareness of sustainability, as the Ramadan calendar will include a group of activities that suit all age groups with different interests, with a focus on different aspects of religion and science.

He pointed out that what distinguishes the Iftar meals is that all the materials used in the meal are sustainable materials free of any waste, as all the eating utensils can be recycled, stressing that food leftovers are used in recycling processes to produce organic fertilizers for agricultural lands.

Hamad Al-Naimi explained that there is a large team of volunteers from students and employees of Qatar Foundation who serve the fasting people in the Ramadan tent. Each person receives one food package that is multi-sectioned and made of environmentally friendly materials – instead of several boxes containing different foods.
