The Interior Ministry has cautioned the public against approaching offshore petroleum installations (main and ancillary) and warned of severe legal consequences for anyone violating the rule.

In a post on social media, the Ministry cited Law No. 8 of 2004 on the Protection of Maritime Petroleum and Gas Installations, which states, under its Article 3, that no unauthorized person shall approach maritime facilities within a distance of less than 500 metres.

Article 4 of the same law states that fishing or leaving fishing gear at a distance of less than 500 metres from maritime facilities is prohibited.

In a previous post, the Ministry had stated that in case of anyone approaching under 500 metres for any purpose of the vital above sites, the violator may incur a fine of QR100,000 and get imprisonment for up to 3 years, or one of the two penalties.
