Construction of water taxi infrastructure completed for first phase: Transport Ministry

The Ministry of Transport has announced the completion of infrastructure works for the first phase of the water taxi project, which consists of the main water transport station in Lusail City, and two ferry stops in both the Pearl Island and the Corniche, Al Sharq reports.
The Ministry displayed in its pavilion at the Qatar Boat Show a model of the main station of the water taxi project in Lusail, in addition to providing a visual presentation explaining the facilities of the pro-ject, which aims to provide modern water public transportation systems equipped with environmen-tally friendly technology, in addition to enhancing integration with other public transportation systems in transporting passengers, the report adds.
This project is scheduled to be linked, upon the start of its operations, to the “Sila” public transport system, according to the ministry’s statement on its official website.
The main water transport station in Lusail City extends over an area of more than 2,200 square meters, and contains a water pontoon equipped with electric chargers necessary to charge the ferries and de-signed to dock four ferries, each 24 meters long.
It also includes a special waiting area, a ticketing facility, as well as various service facilities such as retail spaces and offices, while the ferry terminals on Pearl Island and the Corniche contain a water pontoon and special ticketing and customer service offices.
The statement explained that work is underway to select the operator for this project, and the types of sea ferries that will be used to transport passengers, noting that the second phase of the project will include other areas such as Katara, the old Doha Port, Hamad International Airport, and Al Wakra City, leading to the third phase of the project, which is scheduled to link Doha City to Al Khor City in the north, passing through Lusail City and Simaisma.
