‘Biggest Fish’ competition at Katara:10.45 kg fish wins first prize of QR 30,000

QR 20,000 for second and QR 10,000 for third place, respectively; competition organized as part of Senyar Festival

The ‘Biggest Fish’ competition at the 11th Senyar Festival 2025 delivered a thrilling and unexpected result, as two teams tied for first place with identical catches, each weighing 10.45 kilograms.

Part of the Haddaq and Laffah championships, the competition saw intense participation, celebrating Qatar’s seafaring traditions. The competition committee resorted to a draw to determine the final rankings between the top two teams.

The champions were awarded cash prizes, with QR 30,000 for first place, QR 20,000 for second place, and QR 10,000 for third place.

The final results were:

First Place: Captain Issa Abdul Rahman Saleh, leading Team Field, with a fish weighing 10.45 kg.
Second Place: Captain Saif Muhammad Al-Fadala, leading Team Al-Mufer, also with a fish weighing 10.45 kg.

Third Place: Captain Hassan Abdul Razzaq Al-Sayed, of Team Shatt Al-Arab, with a fish weighing 10 kg.
Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Director General of Katara, honoured the winners during a cere-mony held on the southern shore of Katara.

The competition is part of the broader activities of the Senyar Festival 2025, organized by the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara, which celebrates Qatar’s maritime heritage and fosters a sense of cultural pride among the community.

This year’s festival is took place at Sealine Beach and Katara’s southern shore.
The grand Qafal ceremony was organized at the Katara Beach, amid a festive heritage atmosphere celebrating Qatar’s deep-rooted bond with the sea.
