RIYADH: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani chaired the meeting of the 159th regular session of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which was held in Riyadh, on Sunday.

During the meeting, several reports were reviewed regarding the follow-up to the implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf that were issued by the 44th summit in Doha last December, in addition to the latest regional and international developments.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs explained, in a speech during the opening of the meeting, that five months have passed and Gaza is still suffering with the continuation of the war and bombing, which resulted in the death and injury of tens of thousands of Palestinian brothers, pointing out that Israeli crimes are continuing in light of the failure of the international community to stop it, despite Israel’s daily violation of international law.

He reiterated the position of Qatar towards the Palestinian issue, and the continuation of its mediation to stop the escalation, exchange prisoners between the two sides, and reach a permanent truce in the Gaza Strip.

He pointed out that the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council spared no effort in supporting these efforts and standing with the brotherly Palestinian people during this tragedy, stressing the necessity of continuing to push towards achieving just and lasting peace, with the Palestinian people obtaining all their legitimate rights approved by international bodies, and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
