Agencies, New Delhi: Extending a rare gesture of hospitality, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday went to the airport to receive Amir of Qatar H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the Palam Technical Airport in Delhi.
The Amir was welcomed upon arrival by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Ambassador of the State of Qatar in New Delhi Mohammed bin Hassan Al Jaber and Ambassador of the Republic of India in Doha Vipul. with Indian folk dance performances adding to the warmth of the reception.
The Amir is on a State Visit to India from February 17-18. During his visit, he will meet External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, PM Modi, and President Droupadi Murmu, stated MEA’s release.
“Went to the airport to welcome my brother, Amir of Qatar H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. Wishing him a fruitful stay in India and looking forward to our meeting tomorrow,” PM Narendra Modi wrote on X.
The Amir of the State of Qatar will be received with a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan on February 18, Tuesday, marking the start of his official visit to India.
India and Qatar have deep-rooted historical ties of friendship, trust and mutual respect. In recent years, the ties between the two countries, including in the areas of trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people ties, have continued to strengthen. This visit is expected to further enhance the strong and enduring ties between India and Qatar.
