Indian community mourns death of Hassan Chougule

DOHA: Indian community in Qatar mourned the death of prominent community leader, educationalist, and entrepreneur Hassan A.K. Chougule who passed away on Wednesday morning in India at the age of 70.

Hailing from Maharashtra, India, Chougule battled multiple illnesses in recent months and was undergoing treatment in India.

A revered figure among Indian expatriates, Chougule was the only Indian expat to serve as the president of all four apex bodies under the Indian Embassy. With over 45 years of residence in Qatar, he played a pivotal role in shaping the Indian community, earning respect and admiration for his tireless contributions.

Chougule was the founder president of DPS-MIS School in Doha and was instrumental in establishing the branch campus of an Indian university in Qatar.

A condolence meeting was held at the DPS-MIS School Auditorium in Al Wakra on Wednesday. Prominent leaders, staff, parents, and alumni gathered to honour his memory, and shared recollections of his life and contributions.

“Hasan Chougule was a river of dreams and an ocean of success. His work for the community goes beyond borders and touches many lives and hearts. His legacy is etched in history forever,” Yasir Nainar, President of DPS-MIS, told News Trail.

“Heartfelt condolences and prayers to Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee, our Founder Member & Former President Shri. Hassan Chougule. This is great loss for the Indian Community in Qatar. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) said in a statement.

Chougule was honoured with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, the highest civilian accolade bestowed by the Government of India for overseas Indian citizens.
