Qatar has been ranked as the 8th safest country in the world for expats in 2025, providing a secure and stable environment for residents and visitors alike.
The ranking was done by The Expatriate Group, a leading international healthcare insurance provider, which released its much-anticipated list of “The Safest Countries in the World for Expats 2025.”
Qatar is the only country from the Middle East to secure a spot on the list of the top 10. It is also one of only two non-European nations to be featured, alongside Singapore.
According to the ranking, the top 10 safest countries for expats in 2025 are Singapore, Switzerland, Denmark, Iceland, Slovenia, Austria, Czech Republic, Qatar, Finland and Estonia.
“We collected data on 128 countries, using the Global Peace Index to measure political stability and conflict risk, the Crime Rate Index to measure the level of crime, and the percentage risk of natural disasters to measure the likelihood of such events. We gave each country a score for each category and then calculated an overall score to find the ultimate ranking of the safest countries in the world for expats,” the Group said.
In their report, the Expatriate Group highlighted several key factors contributing to Qatar’s high safety ranking. “Qatar ranks second globally for the lowest crime rate, a distinction supported by its strict laws and robust law enforcement. Violent crimes are extremely rare, and even petty crimes such as theft occur infrequently. This secure environment extends to public spaces, enhancing the quality of life for both residents and expatriates,” it said.
Political stability was also noted as a significant factor. Qatar’s governance is characterized by stability and a strong focus on economic development and maintaining peaceful international relations.
Additionally, Qatar benefits from a low risk of natural disasters due to its geographic location. The country is not susceptible to earthquakes, hurricanes, or flooding, though occasional sandstorms are a consideration. These, however, are well-managed with clear public safety guidelines.
The Expatriate Group’s report positions Qatar as a beacon of safety and stability in the Middle East, and a desirable destination for expatriates seeking a secure and comfortable lifestyle.
