Transport minister lays foundation stone for electric bus plant in Um Al Houl

DOHA: Minister of Transport, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani, laid the foundation stone for the electric bus assembly plant in Umm Alhoul Free Zone. Ministers and senior officials participated in the function.

The plant is set up in partnership between Mowasalat Karwa and Yutong China.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani, CEO of Qatar Free Zones Authority, Ahmed Hassan Al Obaidli, CEO of Mowasalat Karwa, and Shen Hui, CEO of Yutong Middle East, signed a multilateral framework agreement establishing an integrated factory for the production of electric buses.

The factory will establish a production center for electric buses according to European Union standards, extending over an area of approximately 53,000 square meters, and is planned to be completed by the end of 2025.

It will produce electric buses for operation within cities, buses for the metro, school buses, and other types of buses, with an initial production capacity of 300 buses per year.

The factory’s future plans include increasing production capacity to meet demands of regional and international mar-kets across the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. The factory will also include the latest welding equipment and technologies, painting equipment, assembly lines, and bus testing tracks.
