Qatar Airways has announced an immediate ban on the transport of pagers and walkie-talkies for all passengers flying from Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY), the airline has said on social media.
The directive, issued by Lebanon’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, applies to both checked and carry-on luggage, as well as cargo.
The decision follows a series of explosions on 17 and 18 September 2024, during which Israel reportedly detonated Hezbollah’s pagers and walkie-talkies.
The explosions resulted in significant casualties. On 17 September, 12 people, including two children, were killed, and nearly 3,000 were injured. The following day, Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed 14 more deaths and 450 wounded.
Qatar Airways in their post also emphasized that the ban will remain in place until further notice.
