Over 18,000 male and female volunteers have so far registered at the Qatar Volunteer Center, ready to serve the country, armed with knowledge and enthusiasm, Qatar Volunteer Center officials have said.

Speaking to Al Raya daily, Mohammed Al-Fouly, Head of the Media and Public Relations Department at the Qatar Volunteer Center, revealed that these 18,000 volunteers are ready to serve the country on various occasions.

He explained that a number of volunteers will be selected to begin training through various workshops, starting in September, so that they will be ready to volunteer and serve the community during the National Day celebrations at Darb Al Saai

He said: “The center is keen to select young men and women who have the required volunteer qualities, as the center receives requests, continuously, from potential volunteers to join and it takes the necessary measures in terms of interviewing these people and approving them.”

He stressed that the center supervises a large number of events in the country, and these events are provided with a number of volunteers who perform organizational roles, reception, inquiries, guidance and counseling.

Before each event, those wishing to participate in the event apply after it is announced, and then the applications are presented to the committee to interview the volunteers to choose the most suitable among them, and then the volunteers are given training in the art of dealing with the public before each event, and they also head to the event headquarters on a field visit to perform their tasks on the site according to each of their specializations.

At the same time, several volunteers expressed their happiness and enthusiasm at the opportunities they get for volunteering and the impact of volunteering on their personality.

They described volunteering as an activity that teaches young people to give without limits, as it enhances self-confidence and trains individuals in leadership, teamwork, and time management, and provides them with skills to deal with all segments of society with their different cultures.

They said volunteer work improves the lives of individuals, increases the sense of satisfaction, develops skills, increases volunteering experiences, social care, education, and increases the level of efficiency.

They explained that volunteer work contributed to changing their personalities from introverted to sociable, and developing personal skills such as fluency and self-confidence, which results in progress and success in the volunteers’ practical life, in addition to mental and physical health, as volunteering increases self-confidence, increases self-esteem and self-satisfaction, and also reduces the risks of depression.
