Qatar’s mountaineer Sheikha Asma celebrated for historic feat

Qatar Olympic Committee President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani honoured Qatar’s mountaineering star Sheikha Asma bint Thani al-Thani for her new achievement as she became the first and only Arab to climb two 8,000m summits without oxygen support.

In a heartfelt social media post, Sheikha Asma expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am beyond humbled and overflowing with gratitude to be honored by His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and the QOC family. This recognition means the world to me, and I am deeply thankful for all the unwavering support I have received.”

Sheikha Asma’s historic climbs include reaching the summit of Lhotse, the fourth-highest mountain in the world, following her successful ascent of Mount Everest in 2022. Denali, the highest peak in North America, and K2, the world’s second-highest mountain.

Reflecting on her journey, Sheikha Asma shared, “Standing here as the only Arab and the first Arab to conquer two 8000-meter peaks without oxygen fills me with immense pride and joy. This journey has been one of relentless determination, resilience, and faith. Each step was a testament to the power of perseverance and the human spirit.”
