DOHA: The Ministry of Labour has announced the enforcement of a ban on working in open spaces during summer to protect workers from heat stress.

The Ministry said that the ban will come into effect from Saturday, June 1, 2024, and will continue until September 15, 2024. The ban is applicable daily from 10:00 am to 3:30pm, and aims to mitigate the risks associated with extreme summer temperatures.

Heat stress poses significant health risks, including dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, which can be fatal if not properly managed. The Ministry’s directive underscores the importance of taking proactive steps to prevent such incidents, emphasizing that worker safety is a top priority.

Employers are required to adhere strictly to this regulation, ensuring that all work in open spaces ceases during the specified hours.

In addition to the ban, the Ministry has also urged employers to provide adequate hydration, shaded rest areas, and proper training on recognizing and responding to symptoms of heat stress.

Workers are encouraged to report any violations and to prioritize their health by following safety guidelines.
