The Traffic Department has advised all delivery companies in the country to avoid the movement of motorcycles during rain to protect the lives of their drivers, Al Raya reports.

The Traffic Department’s advice comes in the wake of forecasts by the Meteorology Department that the country will experience moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.

Colonel Jaber Muhammad Adiba, Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, told Al-Raya that patrols will be present at various intersections and will stop any delivery bike moving on the street at the time of rain in order to maintain the safety of its drivers.

He explained that motorcycles differ from cars, as the body of motorcycles is completely exposed to rains, and therefore, if any amount of rain reaches them, even a small amount, they can be vulnerable to breakdowns, and the drivers are also directly exposed to rain.

He explained that controlling the movement of a motorcycle during rain is difficult, and the possibility of it slipping is higher. In addition, if it breaks down, there will be a danger to the lives of its drivers.

He pointed out that the General Traffic Department will enhance the presence of its patrol teams on all important roads, important internal streets, tunnels, and places where water accumulates to monitor traffic movement and facilitate its flow, adding that patrols will work around the clock, stressing the necessity of moving cars that are exposed to some accidents and removing them with great speed so that they do not obstruct traffic and cause other accidents.
