Amir to begin tour of Asian countries on Sunday; to visit Philippines, Bangladesh and Nepal

  • Visits seen as historic in boosting bilateral relations
  • Several agreements to be signed
  • High-level official delegation to accompany Amir

DOHA: The Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s forthcoming visits to three Asian countries are seen as new opportunities to strengthen strategic relations between Qatar and these countries and enhance them with more qualitative bilateral partnerships in various fields.

The Amir will begin a tour of several friendly Asian countries on Sunday upon the invitation of their leaders.

Agencies Athens: HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Qatar’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, held a meeting with Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Oil and Environment Minister of Bahrain amd Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, on the sidelines of the ninth UN Our Ocean Conference, held in Athens, Greece, under the theme “Our Ocean… an Ocean of Potential”. Dr. Bin Daina welcomed the Qatari minister, highlighting the fraternal relations between the two countries and their peoples, Bahrain News Agency reports. He stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral, as well as regional and international cooperation in the environmental and climate fields to achieve sustainable development goals and climate security. The Qatari Minister of Environment and Climate Change lauded the Qatar-Bahrain relations, affirming his interest in developing bilateral cooperation and coordination in the fields related to preserving the environment and climate security. He wished the kingdom continued success in the environment and climate action.

The Amir will commence his tour with a visit to the Republic of the Philippines, followed by the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and will conclude with a visit to Nepal. The Amir will be accompanied by an official delegation.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi emphasized the visits will positively impact the bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and these Asian countries.

It will open broad and promising prospects for cooperation and partnership in various fields, strengthen opportunities for cooperation and enable the exchange of successful experiences in difference areas, as well as views on matters of mutual interest.

Speaker of the Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim affirmed that the visit of HH the Amir to Bangladesh, Nepal and the Philippines constitutes a new milestone in developing relations with Asia, praising His Highness’s keenness on consolidating cooperation between Qatar and various countries of the world.

He said the visit would strengthen the bonds of friendship, coordination, cooperation, and common interests with these countries in various fields. It would also push parliamentary relations to broader horizons and consolidate parliamentary efforts aimed at bringing the Qatari people and the peoples of those friendly countries closer together, considering the growing relations between Qatar and Asian countries.

“The Philippines looks forward to welcoming His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, as he undertakes a historic State Visit in the coming days to the maritime and archipelagic nation upon the invitation of His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr,” the embassy of the Philippines in Doha said on its website.

The visit is expected to serve as a platform to reaffirm the two nations’ mutual commitment to further elevate the already robust ties between them, it said.

“Bangladesh has taken all necessary preparations to welcome Qatar’s Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani who will arrive on a two-day official visit which might see the signing of nearly a dozen of cooperation documents to strengthen ties in multiple areas including trade and investment, The Business Standard in Bangladesh said, quoting officials.

“Some of the Dhaka streets are seen decorated with the photos of Qatar Amir, along with Bangladesh president and the prime minister ahead of the visit,” the report said.

The Amir of Qatar … is scheduled to arrive on April 24 for a two-day visit. This is the first high-level visit from the Gulf country to Nepal in a long time,” the Kathmandu Post reported.
