Municipalities intensify campaignagainst unauthorized building partitions

Workers illegally residing in family residential areas evacuated

DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality, represented by various municipalities in the country, has intensified its campaign against violation of rules pertaining to division of buildings and accommodation of single workers in family residential areas.

Various municipalities have intensified their inspections and have taken action against violators, Al Sharq has reported.

Doha Municipality, during inspections, detected 21 properties containing unauthorized partitions and changes to buildings, in violation of building regulations, and legal proceedings were initiated against them, the report added.

During an evening inspection campaign, the new electronic inspection system was used, and the building permits and maps approved by the municipality were verified, in addition to inspecting buildings under construction and monitoring buildings that need maintenance or demolition.

The campaign also resulted in 12 arrests and 53 warnings. A number of buildings that distorted the general view were also monitored, and they were referred to the Building Demolition and Maintenance Committee.

“Doha Municipality calls on real estate owners and tenants to adhere to the planning requirements and approved building permits and not make any planning modifications to the building without obtaining the necessary licenses from the municipality,” the Municipality said.

The report said Al-Rayyan Municipality pays great attention to the issues of workers’ housing within family residential areas and the division of buildings. During the past year, the Municipality evacuated 430 homes in violation of Law No. (15) of 2010 regarding the prohibition of workers’ housing within family residential areas.

The Municipality of Al Khor and Al Dhakhira also conducted inspections, during which 306 seizure reports were issued and 284 properties were evacuated, as the municipality received more than 235 complaints, which resulted in intensifying the inspections which resulted in a decrease in the number of violations.
