In just three hours people of Qatar donate QR 50m to build the largest orphan city

The orphan city, which is to be established in Istanbul, Turkey, will span over 88,000 square meters and will accommodate 2,000 orphans.

DOHA: A charity initiative launched by Qatar Charity has met with an unprecedented success, surpassing all expectations.

The charity drive, called ‘27th Night Challenge’, was to collect funds for the construction of the largest orphan city in the world at Istanbul in Turkey by Qatar Charity.

 The ‘27th Night Challenge” was part of Qatar Charity’s Ramadan campaign and it succeeded in collecting more than QR 50m, within just three hours, from people in Qatar, Al Sharq has reported.

The charity drive was telecast live, and hundreds of people donated during the drive.

The 27th Night refers to the eve of the 27th day of Ramadan, which fell on Friday night, and is considered the most blessed and auspicious night by Muslims in the month of Ramadan, when charity is rewarded many times more.

The “27th Night Challenge” event was held at Al-Hikma Square in the Katara Cultural Village, with the participation of social media influencers like Abdullah Al-Ghafri and Muhammad Adnan, in addition to journalist Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Harami.

Qatar Charity had urged the public and philanthropists to follow up and support this challenge and help mobilize funds for building the largest orphan city in the world.

The orphan city, which is to be established in Istanbul, Turkey, will span over 88,000 square meters. It will accommodate 2000 orphans (1200 resident orphans from various countries and 800 non-resident ones benefiting from its diverse educational and healthcare services).

The city will have a school, two student dormitories, a dining hall, workshop and training buildings, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, a swimming pool, a mosque, gardens, and green spaces, as well as administrative, guest, and reception buildings and a big meeting hall.
