DOHA: An awareness video released as part of the 36th Traffic Week of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries has caught attention due to the innovative and effective way it conveys a strong message about the grave dangers of using mobile phone while driving.

The 36th GCC Traffic Week is held this year from March 3 to 8, under the slogan ‘Driving without a phone’.

The short video, both in English and Arabic, carries the message that ‘your life depends on your attention’ and explains with stunning comparisons what happens when a driver’s eyes are off the road while driving even for a few seconds.

“Sending a text or reading while driving takes your eyes off the road for at least five seconds,” the video says.

“Let’s see a live example. A driver with closed eyes moving at different speeds. Imagine how much he travels in these five seconds at a speed of 40 km per hour – he passes a small ship without noticing,” the video says.

“At 70 km per hour, he will pass 100 metres without noticing and with more speed comes more danger. AT 100 km per hour, he will pass two Boeing 747 planes and at 120 km per hour an entire stadium. Don’t risk your life for a text message. Watch the road and don’t get distracted,” the video says.

The video was also released locally by the Public Relations Department of the Interior Ministry.

“No phone while driving,” the video sums it up.
