AI, aerospace among industries to benefit as Qatar to invest €10bn in France

Doha: Qatar will increase its investments in France to €10bn in the coming years, which will be directed to strengthening strategic economic partnerships between the two countries.

The new strategic partnership will bring €10 billion into the French economy between 2024-2030, according to an agreement signed by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.

The Qatari investment is going to benefit start-ups and investment funds in Europe’s second-biggest economy, targeting sectors including aerospace, artificial intelligence, energy transition, semiconductor, digital, health, hospitality and culture, according to the French presidency’s statement.

Finally, both Paris and Doha agreed to work together on the next summit on AI, which will take place in France and is set to agree on a new mode of international governance of AI.

“Regarding new technologies, France and Qatar expressed their willingness to support access to safe artificial intelligence systems so that the economies and populations of their countries and partners around the world can benefit from innovations while protecting their rights,” an official statement read.
