Qatari Najdi sheep introduced to public at AgriteQ

QNA

Doha: The Qatar Livestock Society (Anaam) organized a series of activities and competitions at its pavilion in the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition to introduce the public to the distinctive Qatari Najdi sheep and other types of livestock, attracting many visitors to the pavilion and Qatar’s International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ) that started recently.

Hamad Al Marri, the supervisor of Anaam’s pavilion activities, highlighted the main activities organized by the society during the exhibition, including several competitions like the “heaviest weight” competition, which aims to encourage breeders to focus on the breeding system and care for the participating breeds, thereby supporting food security in the country by increasing livestock production rates.

He added that another competition aims to encourage breeders to strive for improvement in their production. Additionally, a “milking competition” is organized to select the most productive goats, aiming to encourage breeders to raise breeds that are more productive in milk production.

The Anaam pavilion supervisor also mentioned the organization of a forum for Najdi sheep or Najdi goat breeders to discuss the conditions of breeding this type of livestock, and how to protect the breed, preserve it, exchange experiences, and introduce production and quality levels.
