Citizens say Family Charter will help to reduce increasing divorce rates

Charter will enhance cooperation and understanding between spouses

Doha: The recent launch of ‘Family Charter’ by the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MoSDF) recently will strengthen family ties and reduce divorce rates, as it focuses on enhancing the values of cooperation and understanding between spouses, several citizens have said, Al Sharq reports.

The charter sets out principles and values that organize family relationships and safeguard individual rights within the family, It is also a critical step towards promoting awareness on the significance of preserving the family stability and seeks to solidify its role in the community.

Several citizens who spoke to Al Sharq said that the charter provides protection to society from cultural invasion and destructive behaviours that threaten Arab and Islamic societies, pointing out that it is considered a step in the right direction to enhance family cohesion and community unity and strength.

A citizen said it is an important step towards finding effective solutions to a problem that has begun to worry social researchers in the country – the high divorce rates.

“There is no doubt that issuing a national family document regulates family rights and duties between spouses, and spreads among members of society and creates a culture of family awareness, and enhances religious and moral values,” Khaled Hamad Al Marri said.

Muhammad Al-Zaraa said that there is an urgent need to reconsider the laws and regulations that led to the disintegration of the family, and to work to build a society that contributes to consolidating the values of virtue, compassion, and patience, especially in light of the intellectual challenges “that we face today, such as the impact of social media on the family”.

Another citizen said the charter alone cannot solve all family problems, and additional support may still be needed such as engagement with professionals in the field of family relations or marriage counseling.
