Minister praises growing awareness in society on importance of sports

Doha: Ministries, government bodies and public institutions participated in the 13th edition of the National Sport Day (NSD) activities, in response to Amiri Decision No. 80 of 2011, which earmarked Tuesday of the second week of February of each year to be a Sport Day.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth organized a number of sporting activities and events in Umm Al Seneem Park attended by its employees, youth centers and affiliated clubs, along with a number of community members.

Minister of Sports and Youth HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani praised the growing awareness among members of society of the importance of sports, and the country’s infrastructure, sports facilities, public parks and paths that encourage practicing sports at different times and circumstances, appreciating the large number of events this year with an estimated number of participating entities reaching 250 governmental and non-governmental entities.

Celebrating Sport Day every year reflects sport’s status in Qatari society with the resulting healthy culture that has become entrenched in most members of society year after year, and its reflection on the development of the human element, which is of great importance to the state in accordance with the requirements of Qatar National Vision 2030, 

The Minister said that the activities and events organized by the Ministry aim to achieve its strategic goals in promoting broad participation in sporting activities and motivating young people to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle, based on the Ministry’s vision of ‘active and responsible youth with a patriotic sense and a sport practicing community’.

The Minister called on all members of society to exercise continuously throughout the year for a healthy and happy life, as regular exercise is no longer a secondary matter but has become a strategic choice for the state, which made available all the requirements for practicing various sporting activities, including public spaces, sports facilities and other infrastructure, and moral incentives that would create a society characterized by public health and physical well-being.
