Tickets for Asian Cup final sold for as high as QR2000 on black market: Report

Doha: The tickets for the final match of the Asian Cup, in which Qatar made a historic victory against Jordan, were sold by some unscrupulous people for as high as 2,000 riyals for Category 3 on the black market, while it was sold on the official website for 35 to 100 riyals, Al Sharq has reported.

Some people took advantage of their ability to access the website dedicated to booking tickets for the final match, and bought large quantities of tickets, and then resold them to those who wanted to watch the match, hoping to support their teams.

Some had to spend hours at the website waiting to get the ticket, and others stayed up all night before the match waiting to enter, hoping that they would be lucky and find one ticket, but unfortunately, after waiting a long time and entering the website, they found that it was completely sold out, the report said.

Those who bought extra tickets sold them on the black market and on WhatsApp groups. Some announced on these groups that they had a number of tickets for sale at competitive prices and in auctions for the “highest price”.

The report said that one of the reasons for the existence of a black market for selling tickets was due to the complete reliance on electronic reservations through the website and the long wait it caused, as it was preferable for tickets for the final match to be sold through sales outlets determined by the relevant authorities in malls and elsewhere.
