Four health centres for workers receive 4,000 patients a day

Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) organized a second symposium on Wednesday on emergency and urgent healthcare services in Qatar, as part of a wider national awareness campaign, held under the slogan of Where For Your Care?

The campaign is being run by Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), Sidra Medicine, and Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) and will deliver awareness messages to Qatars population through a wide range of channels.

HMC Media Relations Executive Director Nayef Al Shammari underscored the importance of this campaign in informing the general public on emergency and urgent healthcare services and public healthcare service providers, adding this campaign is only a step on the path of serving that goal.

Head of Pediatrics Department and Director of Pediatric Emergency at Hamad Medical Corporation Dr. Mohammed Al Amri presented HMC’s paediatric services and facilities rendered by four Pediatric Emergency Centers (PECs) which serve about 2000 children daily, with PECs having handled 700,000 patients last year.

He highlighted that PECs receive patients of up to 14 years of age and provide support to cases of child abuse and child neglect, where they refer these cases to the relevant care facilities. He added that PECs provide medical consultations and emergency medical care, as well as laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy services, along with having facilities for medical observation and antibiotic treatment.

For his part, Chief Medical Officer at QRCS’s Medical Affairs Division Dr. Hassan Ali Kassem said that there are four QRCS-affiliated health centers that are designated for workers, two of which receive urgent cases, adding that all four centers received about 1.2 million patients last year, and that on a daily basis, they receive 4,000 patients, 10 percent of which are transferred to HMC.

In turn, Executive Director of Operations at Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) Dr. Samya Al Abdulla spoke about PHCC’s 31 health centers across the country, saying that they provide healthcare services to walk-in patients for routine, urgent, and emergency cases.

Al Abdulla added that PHCC provides a 24-hour urgent care service in 11 of its health centers, and that five of its centers provide child patients with a 24-hour urgent care services, 7 days a week..
She explained that PHCC provides hotline doctor consultation services available from 07:00 – 23:00 throughout the week, in addition to case classifying telephone consultation services provided by nursing staff at 24h/7.

For his part, Associate Consultant in the Emergency Department at Hamad Medical Corporation Dr. Eslam Hussein reviewed emergency healthcare services offered by HMC’s seven emergency departments of the Hamad General Hospital, Al Khor Hospital, the Cuban Hospital, the Womens Wellness and Research Center, and Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, Aisha bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital and Al Wakra Hospital.
