DOHA: The 15th edition of the Media One QIFF Super Cup 2024 will be held from 31 October till 13 December 2024, the organisers announced at a launch event held at Sheraton Grand Hotel on Friday.

Organized by the Qatar Indian Football Forum (QIFF), the QIFF Super Cup tournament is an inter-district foot-ball tournament that features teams from different districts of Kerala. Having started in 2007, this year marks the 15th edition of the tournament.

The launch event was attended by prominent members of the Indian community and football enthusiasts across Qatar.

The Chief Guest, HE Vipul, Ambassador of India to Qatar, emphasized the importance of sports in promoting cultural exchange and community engagement. In his address, the ambassador expressed optimism about In-dia’s football future. “We are not currently highly ranked in the world of football, with our team standing at 126 globally. However, we expect significant improvement in the coming years, driven largely by the passion for football in places like Kerala. I am delighted that 11 teams from different districts of Kerala here in Qatar will be participating in this tournament. “

“Football is arguably the most popular sport worldwide. It has the power to connect communities and unite people. Earlier this month, Doha hosted the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit, which centered around the theme of sports diplomacy. All the ACD member countries greatly appreciated Qatar’s focus on this theme and its role in promoting global unity through sports,” the ambassador added.

The event also welcomed Alisher Nikimbaev, a distinguished technical expert from the Qatar Football Associa-tion. Nikimbaev said, “I’ve heard a lot about this tournament, and it would be nothing without the support and dedication of the Qatar Indian Football Forum. I know how challenging it can be to organize an event of this scale. As FIFA’s new slogan states, ‘Football Unites the World,’ and this is true. I’m from Uzbekistan, you’re from India, and we’re all here in Qatar promoting the sport we love.”

QIFF President Sharaf Hameed spoke about the significance of the tournament and its growth over the years.General Secretary Ashique Ahamed delivered the welcome address.

During the event, sponsors and partners of the tournament were introduced, and the tournament’s fixture schedule was handed to all 11 team managers, setting the stage for an exciting season of football ahead.
